Editorial Advisor of Malayalam daily 'Malayala Manorama', has been chosen for
the Thoppil Bhasi award in view of his outstanding contribution to journalism.
The Thoppil Bhasi foundation Chairman and CPI state Secretary Pannian Raveendran said in a statement that Jacob was
selected for the award in recognition of his firm commitment to the values in
journalism and his concern for the common man. 'Jacob has always approached
problems of the common man with compassion. He has also upheld the high values
of the profession which he has been pursuing for the last several decades,' the
award judging committee noted.
The award is instituted in memory of veteran playwright and film director Thoppil Bhasi, who also left a mark in diverse fields, including journalism and politics. The award, comprising Rs 33,333, memento and citation.
